i think that’s a great idea. I have a family member who does that. We call it his half birthday

I have 2 children..my oldest will be 5 two weeks after Christmas, and my youngest will be 2 two weeks before Christmas. I still have thier parties, and invite mainly those I know will not look for an excuse not to show. Since he is before Christmas, plan it for a week or two before Christmas for his party, and on his actual birthday, you can do something special with just the family. take him to Chuck E Cheese or someplace he will have fun, and let him take a friend along. Having it 2 weeks ahead will give people less of an excuse not to show up.

I don’t understand why you would wait so long for the birthday party? That doesn’t even make sense. The beginning of December or the end of January would be appropriate.

I don’t think it would be stupid. My birthday is the 8th of December and when I was little my parents used to have Santa come to my birthday parties. At some point, I told them that I didn’t like this and that I would prefer for my birthday to be a seperate event and not get swallowed up by the large holiday. After that we always celebrated my birthday seperately, although in December. If your child is old enough, ask him/her, if not, do what you think is best as their parent. Good job for thinking of their happiness on this issue!

My niece was born on Dec. 30th. They do a small family party for her ON her birthday. Just the parents and her sister celebrate on that day. And she gets her birthday presents as well. Usually they pick out one of the big gifts off her Christmas list or a couple small ones to set aside for her birthday. They do special things on that day like let her pick what to have for dinner, what kind of cake and they sometimes make it movie night or go somewhere she wants to go. Then they’ll have a party for her in Jan. Usually a week or so into the month. The holidays are over so people aren’t busy. There is always a small list of things off her wish list that she hasn’t gotten, or things she needs so getting her a present is pretty easy. And usually by then everyone has gotten another paycheck so they aren’t pinching pennies. As far as your son, you may want to think about having his party the week before Thanksgiving. Before everyone is going broke because of Christmas, and before everyone is super busy. But DO celebrate on his Birthday too. That is his special day.

My birthday is ten days before Christmas. Growing up my parents, relatives, and friends never had a problem finding money for a gift (we were not wealthy; Dad was a machinist) and no one ever had a problem finding time to come to a party for me. So it’s cold out; that never stopped us from having fun.

i would say have it at the begginging of the month maybe the first weekend of dec. take him n all his friends skating or something therwe are lots you can do in the winter…just think it could be worse your sons birthday could be on christmas or new years haha… anywayys happy birthday to your son. and goood luck to you!MERRY CHRISTMAS!

My birthday is smack dab on Christmas. I tried the half birthday idea when I was 7 and it didn’t work so well because the party was no fun for one, lol, I was being a spoiled bra though so thats why. But when my real bday came around I still expected presents and was sad when I only got like 1.

I just made sure my parents always separated the 2 holidays as much as possible after that. I would always, (and still do) get very upset if someone got me a “Happy Christmas Birthday” because it was just them being cheap and not wanting to get 2 cards… my husband tried that when we were dating and I set him straight pretty quickly . It is 2 separate holidays and should be celebrated as such. Unfiortunately for parents it means the birthday may have a smaller celebration due to money. Oh and bdays presents should always have bday wrapping paper, lol, as otherwise it just looks like you swiped a present from under the tree and handed it over . As you can tell it’s a sore subject with me as I’ve dealt with it my whole life – everytime someone checks my ID I get the question “Oh, you were born on Xmas , that must be nice, right???”../.

If your child is older, you can suggest the summer and then go for a trial like I did and maybe see if they like it better – just be sure to still reserve a present or 2 for the real day.

Otherwise, since your son’s bday isn’t right on xmas – maybe have his party a couple weeks early – like after thanksgiving in the beginning of december or a month later after all the holidays are over – still cold – but there is always Chuck E Cheese – loud and annoying, but it keeps them occupied and safely inside

I don’t think it’s stupid at all if the child agrees to it. Kudos to you for thinking of it! Just send treats for his/her class if the school does that.

My birthday is two days before Halloween and I hated it when I was a kid. Always getting costumes and candy for my birthday when my cousins got cool toys, never getting a birthday party with my friends because they were all getting ready to go out trick-or-treating or because we invariably had a giant blizzard.

I wouldn’t wait till summer to have a party for him maybe have one next weekend? I know how much it sucks to have a bday in December…..my birthday is the 6th my dad’s is the 11th and my little sister’s is the 18th so we know the feeling and how much its sucks to have your birthday associated with Christmas and ppl saying well that’s you birthday and Christmas gift……and they are always wrapped in Christmas paper… lol or maybe you could even do a party for him after the first of the year when things settle down but dont wait till the summer to celebrate his birthday thats not fair to him!!!
