Why is that they paint the American flag backwards on some aircraft?
csijrjg asked:
Ive been working on airplanes for a couple years now and have seen the American flag presented backwards on most, but I have also seen it presented normally. Why is that?

it is similar like painting the lion or other heraldic animal, not to fly AS-S forwards but head on.. I tell zou lion flying tail first looks funny

Because, proper flag etiquette always has the Flag facing Forward, that means if the flag is on the right side of something, it must be reversed, otherwise it would show the flag facing to the rear, this would signify “RE-TREAT” !

The flag is painted, or the decal is added, so that the flag appears to fly in the direction of airflow across it. If it’s on the pilot’s side of the fuselage or horizontal stab, it’s correct, but it’s backwards on the copilot’s side.
Many aircraft sweep the markings on relative to the direction of flight, including flags. It just looks wrong to see the upper left corner of a flag pushed back and forward left extending forward.

with that said it will be that way on both sides so it will look reversed on co pilot side and normal on the pilot side

The flag should look like the front of the plane is the falg pole. Therefore on the port side it should look normal and on the starboard side it should look backwards.

I think its a symbolic issue…stripes facing forward.
