What’s the etiquette here?
anonymom asked:
I am hosting a retirement party tomorrow. Everyone has chipped in for a gift. The main part of the gift is a gift certificate to a B & B. There is also some wine, chocolates, travel bag. When I present the gift to the retiree, should I just give it to her and say we all pitched in for a special gift? Or do I specify that there is a gift certif for a B & B, a restaurant, etc?
I put everything in a basket; you can see everything, but there is a lot of stuff, so I didn’t know if I needed to clarify.

gift basket
Why not just do a Card “Retirement Card” and have all the people who chipped in for the gifts sign it.
present
You might want to tell the person about the gift certificate especially if there is an expiration date.
gift delivery
Just tell them you got them a going away present courtesy of (whoever bouught the gift).
gift boxes
I would say something to the effect that this is something we would like to give you to celebrate your retirement.she can open the gift on her own
gift ideas
Just give her the gift with a card enclosed. She’ll be able to see who contributed towards the gift by the signatures on the card. You don’t need to say anything. The gift and card says it all. Good Luck!
holiday gift
Just say words to the effect that it’s a gift from everyone. You don’t have to tell her what it is. That would spoil the surprise for her.
gifts for women
I don’t understand – why do you have to tell her what it is? can’t she open it and see for herself?
i would just say you all pitched in to get her a gift, then give it to her. Easy.
