what would be a good back to school clothing budget for me?
i start school in about 2 weeks! i havent bought alot of clothes ive only bought like 6 things! im going to be a junior and want to get a reasonable amount of things ( last year i always repeated my clothes alot)
my parents arent rich and i dont have a job. plus my b day is in the begining week of august and im going to be asking for a $150 mac cosmetics gift card so i dont want to make them spend too much (i take in consideration we dont have much money) also my mom might say something like “omg we just spend so much money on clothes and now u want $150 for ur bday?!”
:/ i usually shop at stores like:
forever 21
abercrombie (always sales rack)
hollister (always sales rack)
american eagle (always sales rack
wet seal
charlotte russe
target
walmart (very rarely)
old navy
and other reen stores like that….
this does NOT include school supplies!
shoes i usually get like 5 pairs
3 flats
2 sandals
(there usually around $10-$15)
acesories i plan on only buying 3 necklaces
3 pairs of earrings (at F21 they usually give like 10 pairs of earings for $3!)
2 bracelets
not alot..
oh and atleast 2 tote bags for mybooks (i plan on buying 1 from victorias secret for $12 and maybe if i find one at abercrombie for sale)
thank you! ![]()
any other tips greatly appreciated!!!

Don’t concentrate so much on buying clothes–splurge on accessories (mostly shoes, belts, necklaces, rings and head bands and hair pins) and essentials if you haven’t already got them (vests, leggings, plain t-shirts (walmart has really good prices), a bohemian dress, a white button down, a denim jacket). This will allow you maaaany more options and give you more bang for your buck. The same t-shirt could have a completely different look the next week if you pair it with completely different accessories and no one will even know it’s the same shirt. This way, you probably won’t get bored during the school year and have an itch to buy more clothes even next summer.
Also, sell stuff you honestly won’t think you’ll ever wear again. There’s no reason to keep your old winter formal dresses, etc.
And update some old clothes. Cut out the neck of an old band t-shirt and wear it low on one shoulder. Add buttons or cool, beaded pins or bows to another boring t-shirt.
If you take the time, thrift stores and stores like TJ Maxx and Marshalls will be your saviour. Go to different locations in your city–there is always different stuff.
And never buy something right away. If you still remember it the next day, go get it, it’s obviously worth it.
All that being said, spend at the most $100 (and maybe reconsider the hefty MAC gift certificate. makeup only goes so far in an outfit anyway, and the only “makeup” anyone should splurge on is facial cleansers, moisturizers, etc and a really good concealer)

I always shop in the clearance also. Ross, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx always have name brand stuff for cheap. And Nordstrom Rack has Betsey Johnson necklaces for like $12.
The shoes will probably cost you : $60 if you buy them cheap.
Accessories will be around : $20. You can buy tons from Forever 21 like you said. That’s what I do.
Go to AE, I bought a small bag there last week for $8. They have 30% off clearance and it was in clearance. Also, Hollister, A&F, and Forever 21 had cheap ones. I bought mine there. You’ll probably spend $25 on the totes.
Go to Plato’s Closet too. There’s like Hollister totes for $4 there. I never really liked the idea of buying clothes someone has owned, but they had so much good quality cute stuff there.
I think around $100 or $150 is a good amount.
