What wedding gift can I give to a nice person but who I am not close to?
Flame asked:
He is my date’s best friend, and his wedding is approaching (in another country though, but he will back with his wife). Although I have not recd any formal invitation (nor do I think I will because we aren’t that close), I still would like to gift him something from my side, just as a token. What kind of gift would be appropriate? And should I gift it before he leaves or after he gets back when he is with his wife?

Something romantic for him and his wife: a couple of champagne glasses, picnic basket set, or candles, etc would be a nice gesture. You have the option of providing a gift before he leaves or after he gets back.

Here’s what I did with having to purchase a gift for a friends’
cousin and his bride to be. I got a special cake cutting knife
and a serving utinsel for setting the slices on the plates. The
set had special lucite handles cut to look like crystal and it
was very pretty with highly polished stainless blade and
the cake server also. It was a gift that either the bride or groom would appreciate. Not everyone has a brand new set
to use on their wedding day. Often they are loaned from who
ever puts on the reception, for the couple to use. Something
also nice would be a set of silver candle sticks for the
gift table or even the table where the cake is on display. This
will enable them to use them for special occasions and also
at Christmas too on a pretty tablecloth.
I hope these suggestions are of help.

if only you can give him a cruise ticket BEFORE he leaves,
but i would recommend a nice looking photo album with designs related to marriage? after they take their wedding pictures and when they take their pictures in their honeymoon trip. that would be nice i think, but give to them before he leaves

I would not give a gift, since you did not receive an invitation. It would be most appropriate for you and your date to get them something from the both of you and have it marked as being from the two of you. The main reason is that usually after the honeymoon, the married couple sits down and sends out thank-you cards to all the guests, and they get the addresses from the invitation list they had, and therefore may not have your address, making it rather awkward for them.
I don’t know, it kind of reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where George bought Elaine a take-out salad, yet George’s date was the one who handed it to her when they arrived, and Elaine thanked the date who did not say anything about it coming from George. Well, George got all bent out of shape about this and later made a point of telling Elaine that it was he who bought the salad and the thanks should be directed to him. Of course, word of this got to the date and she dumped George for being so petty…

I’ve always been a fan of the gift card. Buy one for a department store or my favorite, a nice restaurant. It’s like taking them to dinner. Give the gift before.

Buy them a gift card or whatever you call it from a restaurant in their town. Applebees or whatever you have, forty dollars or so. It’s a nice gift they can use wherever they go, whenever they want to.

I think a picture frame is a good idea and you can get really cute personalized ones at the website below.

If you’re not attending the wedding and you want it to be a small gift, picture frames are a classic example.
If you wanted something a little bit greater than that, go for a gift card to a department store.
Give the gift before he leaves.
