What is the proper way to display the American flag along with a USMC flag?

My son is leaving for boot camp next week and received a USMC flag as a gift. We have 2 mounts facing east on the house, one on the north, one on the south. Is there a “rule” which flag should go where? Thanks! God Bless America!
