I am going to travel to japan this summer for 2 weeks and staying with a host family. I want to bring them a gift from the States. What is a good gift that is rare in japan?

Food and consumables are always a good choice, particularly chocolates, good whiskey (for your host father), cookies or jam homemade by your mother, or the specialty food of your town. Wrap your present well and decorate the package with some small token from your town or state – a magnet, pins, pen or dishtowel. Something touristy will be fine.
Well do NOT get them something that is english and has english words (like an english book or video game). I would give them something from you’re state or about the entire USA. I would get them the USA’s flag.
