I’m going to a last minute wedding next week and don’t have the money to buy a nice expensive gift. I’ve seen ideas about photo albums and decorating the invitation. Any other ideas??

The Boss’s favorite employee suggested we all chip in and buy an expensive gift after a small office party and a bonus check distribution by the company owner. The bonus for all was a blanket type with everyone getting the same amount of bonus. All checks were equal to about a days pay,that included taxes deducted.

I recently came across a shopping bag of which my mother had left at my home. Of course I looked in it to ring her to tell her, “your shopping bag is here”. I came across a birthday card, for myself and an expensive bracelet, which, I don’t believe my mother can really afford to have purchased for me. I feel extremely guilty she has spent this much, I do not want to accept this gift – I want her to return it and get her money back…

How can I say – without offending her – I cannot accept the gift?

I jus got my friend a b.day card and it was suppose to be humorous but i don’t kno if i like it any more. it says on the front, “its not the gift but the thought that counts…” then on the inside it says, “so I thought really hard about getting you an expensive gift!” Happy Birthday! then i thought about giving him some money but not to much. we both like each other and i didnt want to go buy him some clothes or anything since we’ve been only talking for 4 1/2 months.

I am a middle school teacher and have been invited to the graduation party of one of my 8th grade students. Is a gift appropriate? If so, any thoughts without spending a fortune. I was thinking a $10 gift certificate to a book store—or is that too cheap? I am thinking I might be invited to more than one and I don’t want to buy one student a more expensive gift than another.
