I bought a collection of sports memorabilia and it included a MLB baseball with an unknown autograph. I am trying to find a source that may help me to identify it.

I have gotten back into collectiong sports memorabilia, especially baseball, and as all of you hopefully know it is baseball’s offseason. If I send a letter asking for autograph and send it to the teams address like you are supposed to do, will it get to the player? Or do I have to wait untill baseball season?
I was wondering If I can mail them.
