Going to New York City this summer?
itsjustme asked:
How many days is necessary? I chose to go to NYC instead of having a big party and getting a gift for my 16th birthday..
What should my mom and I do while we are there?
Other than the Statue of Liberty, is there anything else we should see that’s not in Manhattan?
What hotels are safe and good?
Thanks!
Oh, and what is the weather like in the summer?

My mom and I always go shopping and dining in Manhattan sometimes! Well, we mostly go to 34th St. Herald Square–they have really awesome shops there..but not really good GOOD restaurants..they have a lot of fast food but if you want good restaurants, just walk 2 blocks and they have really good restaurants at a good price! I have no idea about hotels.. but I heard that Roosevelt is a good hotel. You should def. go to Times Square-they have a really cool M&M’s store there and a great Hershey store! Good stuff out of Manhattan-if you like, you can go to the Bronx Zoo. One place you should def. go is Hall of Science in Queens-I guarantee you’ll love it there because they have some really awesome stuff! Have fun!!!
anniversary present
It’s really hot in the summer.
What to do outside of Manhattan? Well you could visit Flushing Meadows Corona Park, the site of the 64 and 38 World’s Fair. Theres some interesting remnants of both, including (most famously) the Unisphere, the New York Pavilion (Jetson’s type towers, and a theatre that’s still used), the Queens Museum and Ice Rink (remnant of the 1938 WF). Also besides these relics, it’s a beautiful park just to visit, shows you the other side of NYC. Take the 7 train from any of the subway stations along 42nd St. to the Willetts Point/Shea Stadium station. If you can get an express train at the time you go you’ll be there before you know it.

Sure sight-seeing is good, but you’ve GOT to sum it all up with shopping ESPECIALLY for a birthday! Do you like Coach, Louis V, Burberry, etc? Try going to 56th & madison ave (also close to the Apple Store). Times Square has SO much to do, too! You could go to Madame Toussaud’s Wax Museum, Toys R’ Us (maybe for a baby cousin, or relative) just for the experience! Macy’s, Victoria’s Secret, Daffy’s, Forever 21, etc on 34th street. There’s SO much to do in Manhttan. Also, in the summer it is VERY hot. But it can also be rainy at some times. I hope you enjoy your stay!

Manhattan is the great place to explore things out. I live in NYC and still haven’t seen everything, LOL. I suggest you to go to the Rockefeller Center. It is really cool and fun to be in there, you would enjoy the shops, ice skating rink, museums, and the city itself. I also would suggest you to visit Time Square, and Broadway Theater. There are awesome areas and places in New York City. You will love it! Enjoy!

A week in New York City is perfect. Two weeks in the city, is even better.
There are a few places that are outside of Manhattan that are worth visiting.
-USTA Tennis Center (home of the US open) — if you’re a tennis fan this is the best place
-The Museum of the Moving Image — everything you need to know about movie and television is house. The building is famous for being the home of the Kaufman Astoria Studios, famous for TV show like “Law & Order”, “Who’s the Boss”, “Spin City” and “Sesame Street” among others.
-The Brooklyn Promanade — right on the bank of the East River in the Booklyn Heights secion of the borough, you can see the Manhattan skyline from this famous location.
-Bronx Zoo — if you’re an animal lover, the Bronx Zoo is the place to see all the fame animals of the world.
-New York Aquarium — if you love the sea life, the Aqurium is the best to visit all the sea life creatures.
-Governor Island — this former milliatry istallation is now a national park, operated by the National Park Serivce, is now opened to all visitor.
-Yankee Stadium — if you’re a baseball fan or a fan of the Yankees, like me, then a trip to “The House That Ruth Build” is worth the worth trip. This is the team’s last year playing at the old stadium and its a big year because the stadium is playing host to the “All Star Game”.
-Junior’s Resturant — if you love cheescake and have a sweetthooth, the Junior’s is the place. This resturant has been, not only a Brooklyn institution, but a New York City landmark since the 1950s. Everyone from politicians to celeberties have had their cheescake there.

There is lots to do:
For a mother and daughter shopping and dining in SoHo is a must.
The Metropolitan Museum, MOMA and the Frik collection are among the greatest museums in the world
.
The tour buses go to Brooklyn and the Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Botanic Gardens which are are world class will give you a fun afternoon away from the Manhattan crowds.
Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Broadway plays etc. We have 30,000 restaurants so there will be plenty to match you taste, you can avoid chain places like Olive Garden and Red Lobster that you can find anywhere.
Check travel sites for hotels, there are hundreds at many price levels.
Summer weather does tend to be hot and humid, but we are on the ocean so take your bathing suits and go to the beach.
