No. Very few if any people use that as a way of determining how much to give. In the current economy, most people don’t have $200 laying around. Spend what you can comfortably afford and the bride and groom will appreciate it because it is the thought that counts.

yes, the idea is to remunerate the bride and groom for the cost of the meals. $100 min for a couple. if the event is in a big city and you think they’re throwing an expensive lavish wedding, $200 min.

A gift is a “gift”, not an obligation. Give what you are comfortable with giving. There are no set rules. I had several people who came to my wedding and their gift was a beautiful card with personal note. (no other material thing or cash). That didn’t bother me, though, because I was just glad to have them there and be part of my day.

You should spend the amount that you feel comfortable giving, which will depend on your financial situation, how close you are to the recipient, etc.

I’ve never heard the amount spent should be doubled. But I will say that a gift should never be a burden for the giver.

That is what my fiance & I do because the gift is jointly from the both of us and if we would normally solo give $100, we make it $200 when it is from the both of us.
