Going back to school to get a Master’s degree?
Wednesday, April 1st, 2009I am 35 years old and will be married on May 2nd. My fiancee is 37. Neither she nor I have children but plan to start a family as soon as possible after we are married. I have toyed around with the idea of getting licensed as a Christian counselor for a few years. I live in Georgia and to be licensed by the state you have to have a Master’s degree. A friend of mine suggested getting student loans to cover living expenses, going to school during the day and then waiting tables 2 or 3 times a week for extra money. My fiancee works part time as a travel agent at her paying job and then part time at her family’s ministry.
Counseling and teaching is what God has gifted me in and what I truly am passionate about. I have no college education at all so I am starting from scratch. My fiancee’s concern is that if I were to quit my position at UPS we would lose insurance benefits. However, my friend has told me that health insurance is available through universities and colleges. I feel that I would seriously burn out attempting to work full time and attend classes full time for 8 years. Thoughts and advice are welcome…
