How dare they offend me with their appeasing Christians! Why won’t they think of the children who have to see that crap!?

Who wants to boycott Hallmark?

“I’m offended **BY** the Hallmark store.”
Damn, I’m 0 for 2 today:

“There **ARE** all these Jesus figurines during the holidays…”
Jeme: Notice I answered that question also. It was the inspiration for this tongue-in-cheek question.

Are you basically happy. but just not complete? Here it is, another 3 day weekend, another “holiday”.

I actually thought that by getting out of an emotionally draining marriage I would finally have some time to myself and some peace in my life. Ending the marriage was definately a good decision, I don’t ever doubt that, but, about the peace and quiet…I DID enjoy it for awhile,actually for several YEARS, but now that I am spending Holidays and long weekends pretty much alone, the silence and peacefullness is almost deafening!!! And, I **** to say it, and I hope it’s not only me or I am going to become very concerned about myself, well, you see, the thing is…..I absolutely **** any holiday, and especially these 3 day weekends when I’m supposed to be celebrating some Hallmark kind of day, and it just “ain’t” happening. I suppose the song is not quite right (not the afore/above mentioned song) but the one about rocks and ilands and feeling no pain…well what I really mean is, I am not a rock, nor an island, and I am definately feeling pain. Why do holidays **** so much? 4 U 2 ? :{

Are there any good holiday movies out there that won’t make me hurl my holiday eggnog?

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009
Alec the Dalek asked:

I’ve a twisted sense of humor, an appreciation for irony, and a fairly sentimental soul. But whenever my missus turns on the tube, it’s always these god-awful, super-sacharrine, syrupy made-for-TV flicks either on The Hallmark Channel or similar tripe. The kind where you can predict the ending within the first 10 minutes of the movie, complete with the stereotypical plot devices such as the terminally ill wife or child, the disgruntled person who gave up on Santa/Jesus/power-of-love/etc, and the angelic intervention that will save Christmas in the nick of time.

I mean, if you can stomach that stuff, you’re a tougher hombre than me. But for the more jaded and gritty types, any thing you’d recommend?

How important are V-day gifts?

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009
Meg asked:

I’m not a big fan of Valentines day and I don’t really like to make a big deal of it (btw does anyone else feel this way – its such a cheesy hallmark holiday…) Any way, the problem is, my boyfriend wants to celebrate, and I know he’s probably going to do something really nice for me, like a nice dinner and a gift – even though I’ve told him I don’t need all that. I would personally much rather just spend time with him and return the favor in other ways..rather than buying him something. So I guess my question is, how important is it that I go out and buy him a gift?

I need help with an ABC or it might be Hallmark movie special. I don’t know its name?

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009
Katy asked:

Okay, a few (or even several 8 years at the most) ago, Hallmark, or maybe ABC Family had a movie that I really loved. I need help finding the name of it.

So, the plot of the movie is about a 20-something year old blonde guy gets adopted by a family during the holiday season. This guy (cannot remember his or anyone else’s name for my life) is very clumsy and the father of the house does not like him at all. All the while, the adoption agency is trying to fix their mistake in sending the 20 year to the home instead of what they really wanted: a baby.

In the course of this movie, the dad’s face is hurt very much and he has to put an ice-pack on his face that has holes for his eyes. Also, the adopted guy decorates the tree and in the process of putting on one of the decorations, he loses balance and knocks the tree down.

In the end, the family finally gets the baby they want and they decide that they want to keep the mistaken orphan guy because they love him. In the end I also remember there being snow.

I also remember that the actor, as I already said, has short blonde hair and always wears black-rimmed glasses. At least that’s what I remember him as in every movie that I saw him in. And someone just told me that they found him to be annoying and a bit effeminate.
(Just thought I might add that.)

So can anyone help me?

(St) Valentines day: a religious holiday, commercial exploitation or bit of harmless fun?

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009
Sirensong sunshine asked:

It today a genuine religious holiday, as it has a saint’s name – in whch case, how do people observe it? Is it another pagan/roman festival that later religions have appropriated, like Easter and Christmas? Or is it just another ‘Hallmark Day’ to help the grretings card and flower industries. What do we think, people?
Yeah I KNOW it’s not really a religious holiday, but surely, as it has a saint’s name adn is on a saints day there must be *someone* out ther ewho thinks they shoudl pray to St Valentine or something?

And if we all think it’s a big commercial exploitation game, why do we all go along with it…?

Should I Do **** Undies too?

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009
Wrizzo asked:

I’m going to have a house party on Valentine’s Day (I’m in college). I think Valentine’s Day is a hallmark holiday, so I thought it would be a fun to dress like a girly-girl (I’m a guy). What’s a good outfit? I want to be convincing. I’m 5″9′ and very skinny. I’ll shave my legs, wear whatever-I don’t get embarrassed.

Should I let my boyfriend upset me?

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009
PlasticTrees asked:

Yesterday I asked him about what we’re doing for Valentine’s day, he said he forgot about it. Today I asked him again and he said “do you even want to do anything? it’s just a Hallmark holiday”? We’ve dated/lived together for 2 years, this kind of makes me sad-but should it?
