I’m in my Sister’s wedding coming up in three weeks. I have helped her with the planning. My husband is playing the music for the wedding and dejaying the reception. I arrainged for my friend and myself to work the bar. Plus we’re watching their baby while they’re on their honeymoon. My Mother asked me to go with to to pick out a present for the wedding. I told her that my husband and I were not getting her a present because of everything we’ve already have done and will be doing. My Mother got upset and said I still had to get her a gift. So my question is what is the protocall in this situatution? Do I need to go out and buy a gift?
I’m not complaining about how much work we’ve put into the wedding. I’m just wondering why my Mother thinks we need to get a gift.

My friend and his wife got married in Europe and my husband and I could not go to the wedding. They were at our wedding two years ago and I have no idea what is the appropriate wedding gift? Do I give them half of what they gave us since they did not have to pay for us at their wedding? Should I send a check or get a few remaining items from their registry? My friends are getting married next month. They are going back to their hometown for the wedding, which is halfway across the country from where they live. I don’t live in their hometown either. I wanted to give them a particularly large gift from their wedding registry. Is it okay to send it to them before the wedding? That way I won’t have to travel with the large gift and they won’t have to lug it back home after the wedding.

What is a creative and non-registry gift other than cash that you have received for your wedding. I want to give something practical but unique. Fine china, crystal, bath towel, or kitchen appliances seem kind of boring.
