A friend of mine in his mid-30s is graduating from a Masters program that he’s been taking at night. We’ve been invited to a graduation party for him. What is the proper etiquette in terms of gifts? Do you get a gift? Just a card? If a gift, what kind of gift?

My mom is giving my sister a graduation gift in the form of money or gift cards or something… and we’re debating on how much is appropriate. She wanted to give her $1,000 originally, which i thought was WAY too much, now she says $500… i still think it’s too high. Opinions?

I would like to know what the proper gift giving etiquette is for a high school graduation for my brother’s second wife’s daughter. We just received a graduation announcement for this girl’s upcoming graduation. My brother has been married to his second wife for about 3 years, they live across the country, and I’ve only met the daughter approximately 5 times. Are we required to send a gift? I feel she’s not really “family” and I barely know her. What is the proper etiquette in this situation?

I am a middle school teacher and have been invited to the graduation party of one of my 8th grade students. Is a gift appropriate? If so, any thoughts without spending a fortune. I was thinking a $10 gift certificate to a book store—or is that too cheap? I am thinking I might be invited to more than one and I don’t want to buy one student a more expensive gift than another.

I’m a graduating senior and I this summer I’m going to have to go to a bunch of graduation parties. Of course I’m only going to give gifts to my closest friends, which is about 10 people. I have 4 playbill posters and need a way to present them as a gift to a high school boy. All I could think of so far is to laminate them and connect them vertically using a metal ring or link of some kind. Maybe then he can hang it on the back of his bedroom or closet door. The posters are 11×17. I planned on adding the year to the posters with a paint pen. I’m running out of time with graduation season approaching and my idea just isn’t very exciting. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!Please!!!!!!!!

I was surprised to be invited to a distant relative’s (I think it’s my third cousin) son’s graduation. I hardly ever see these people. Makes it seem like they invited me just to get another gift. I was speaking with my aunt last week and she mentioned that she had received an invitation also. She planned on attending, but was only going to give him $20. What would be an appropriate amount under these circumstances?
