Should your boss’ gift be based on a percentage of the bonus he/she gives you?

A man who you’ve been seriously dating for some time gives his co-worker (boss) a gift card from Victoria Secrets as a wedding gift. Is that professional? Would you be concerned especially if he has never bought you anything (as far as clothes) and you have never met the person. You were not even invited to the wedding. What do you think?

I am finishing up a really fantastic internship, and I want to get my boss a gift at the end of the summer. He was really a terrific boss, and I want to get him something nice. I am a biz school intern, so I have a higher pricepoint than the typical intern.

I was thinking of getting him a bottle of wine and a gift certificate to a restaurant, but are gift certificates tacky in this situation? What about getting him some company branded knicknacks and something else? Any original ideas would be appreciated!

I am asking about etiquette (not legal opinions!). This year, the boss gave each employee a box of candy but it was really late (Dec. 21) and most (90%) ppl got the candy on January 7 because the offices were closed over Christmas and New Years and many ppl took off before Dec 21. Should we still go out and buy a gift for the boss?

I received tickets to an event in exchange for doing business with a client. We don’t receive any perks at my work and anything we get from clients is to be cherished.

I want to bring my wife to the event so should I just pretend I didn’t get anything and hope he doesn’t ask?

What if he asks and wants them? I could totally seeing him saying “the only reason you got those was because you work for me, so give them to me.”

My boss is Italian and every Christmas, I get him a bottle or two of wine. I usually ask the store manager for recommendations, but figured I might be able to get great ones here. I believe he is partial to petite syrah. I have another gift, but I can go up to $40-50 for the wine.
He very rarely drinks white wine, so red is definitely more practical. I want him to be able to enjoy it, not let it sit and collect dust!

Cant figure out what gift to give my boss who has everything, her only hobby is jewelry, which I cant afford. I want to give her a good gift, so after shopping for 3 days I bought her a jewelry cleaner…Is that appropriate? Since she has tons and needs to clean it anyway, any suggestions, running out of time, xmas prty in 4 hrs

The Boss’s favorite employee suggested we all chip in and buy an expensive gift after a small office party and a bonus check distribution by the company owner. The bonus for all was a blanket type with everyone getting the same amount of bonus. All checks were equal to about a days pay,that included taxes deducted.

They are in the process of building a new home. Last year we got them a gift certificate to Lowes to help with their building supply cost. This year we were thinking about getting them a gift card from JcPenney. The only thing is that I do not think it would benefit the male boss. Help me with some suggestions.
