Can you help me stop spending $$$$?
Any tips. We recently moved, and when we had the money, we bought new furniture, sheets, and decor for our new home. Christmas came, and I spent more money on gifts, etc. Now, I am still spending. I feel like I “need” a new purse, new pajamas, new cologne – all the things I didn’t get at Christmas I think. I am trying to make our life perfect, and have all the things we need, or deserve. At least that is my mentality. How do I stop this cycle? I have had issues in the past (a long time ago) with credit, and learned my lesson. I am paying for all of this with cash, but we need to start saving!!! We both need a retirement plan! I spend, and then feel guilty and nervous about money (due to my past experience), but keep doing it once the feeling passes. I need advice before the bank account dwindles more! Any tips would be good.

You really need to hire someone to manage your money.
This means you give him your paycheck and the paycheck goes straight to the bank and only he can write you checks to buy the things you need according to your own rules.
It will be very painful for you.
You are addicted to shops.
You need professional help.
If you don’t fix this you will die pennyless.

A “perfect” life is not about stuff, it’s about being happy and secure. At least you are seeing it’s an issue. Just remember, in two years, all of the stuff you buy today will be either gone or useless. When you retire, can you survive? The stuff you buy now will seem usless when you have to decide on what bill to pay to survive – heat, rent, of food. The purse or pajamas will burn, but won’t taste good!
Stop believing the Media Hype! Buy what you NEED FIRST, and decide on WANTS second and only after discussion.

I know exactly how you feel. You work hard, so you should have everything you want, right?
I wish it worked that way. We recently bought our first house. It’s quite nice for our area. Now my husband wants a new truck, 4 wheelers, a boat and all these things. I remind him that he makes great money. I also remind him that we’ve chosen to spend the money on our home. Most people can’t have all of the toys and the house, too.
Also, when you see other people who appear to be living the high life, just remind yourself of all of the debt they’re probably in. Think of how miserable they must be not having any money in the bank and probably charging groceries. Now does it seem so glamorous? Also think of how good it feels to know that when you retire, you’ll be able to support yourself. Having an emergency fund and a 401(k) are 2 of the best feelings in the world. Remind yourself of that the next time you feel the urge.
Good luck!!

Open an Ingdirect account. It is one of the best things I did for saving money. The savings rate is great. I have a savings account with my primary bank and a savings account with IngDirect. The nice thing about IngDirect is that you don’t see it unless you log into the account so I am less tempted to transfer the money back to my checking account.
You can log into your IngDirect account at any time and transfer money from your checking account into your IngDirect savings account – a one time transfer, bi-monthly, once a month etc.. I set it up to take out a certain amount bi-monthly when I know my paycheck will be in there. It really is a great way to save because you don’t even think of the money.
Hope this helps. ingdirect.com
